More Southern Than Thou Crockpot Pecan Pie

There are a few things that make southerners southern. One of them is their food, and if you are truely southern, you own a crockpot. Then when your roots dig deep in the southern soil, you look avidly for MORE recipes to use with your crockpot! Well, I have seen this recipe all over Facebook AND Pinterest. I have NOT, however,  found a good pin that shows the full recipe. Therefore, I will just blog about it and hopefully make more than myself happy! Note: I am not the original owner of this photo or recipe....

Ingredients
1 uncooked piecrust
3 eggs
1 cup sugar
2/3 cup dark Karo syrup
1 cup pecans, broken up
1/2 cup margarine, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions:Step One: Spray the slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray.

Step Two: Place uncooked piecrust in the slow cooker and press up the edges about 1/2 inch up the sides.

Step Three: In a medium-mixing bowl, stir the remaining ingredients until well mixed. Pour on top of the piecrust.

Step Four: Cover and cook on HIGH for 2 to 3 hours

Dip straight out of the crockpot and serve with whipped cream or ice cream!!

Classroom Sign

If you look at my blog you will see I am a teacher and a nurse. Yes, I have two of the best jobs in one! Trying to spice up my classroom a bit, I decide to make a reversible sign for my door. I purchased a piece of wood and some Apple Barrell craft paint from Hobby Lobby. I used my Cricut to cut out the lettering and designs. Threw in some tulle and scrap ribbon to girly it up! What do you think?

Football Season Kickoff Dress

Yes!!!! It is weighing in on that time of year again...football season (the 5th season!).  So in grand preparation, I decided to make my daughter a new dress!  This dress is very simple (I debated on amping up the sleeves). I used a plain t-shirt, chopped it off, added a skirt, ruffle, and buttons then voila! She will be all ready to cheer on the ONLY  SC Team!!

Because...as for me and my house, we will yell Go Gamcocks!

Men's Dress Shirt to Knot Dress

I have seen tutorial after tutorial on methods to turn a men's dress shirt in to a dress.  So, I guess you could say I gained my inspiration from Pinterest post after post. Lucky for me, my husband recently lost A LOT of weight so he has plenty of XXL shirts. Now, if you know my husband, you would know that he completly avoids any color not in the "boy" color wheel. That being said, whether he had lost the weight or not, I'm sure he would have happily given up this shirt. As a matter of fact, I can say with certainty he has never worn it! Anyway, I digress. Back to the project........   My daughter is in love with knot dresses. I have only made her a few and they are all she wants to wear. I knew exactly what I wanted to do with this shirt! Therefore, with scissors in hand, I began to chop away at the shirt and after many stitches we had a dress. Also, no outfit is complete without accessories. Why not a rosette barette? Take a look!!

The Shirt

See, this dress is fun!

And cute!

Home Remodel Intro

For too long, we have been putting off this project. First, let me give you a little background information. We bought our house in 2007. We didn't want a new house with an enormous mortgage. Finally, we found something that caught our eye. It was an estate, 3 bedroom, 2 bath, brick, ranch in style with an acre of land. We saw it as an investment. Being an estate, we were able to get it CHEAP, which is important when you buy your first house. Maybe these pictures will help you put a little image with the makings of the house.  The most drastic change in the entire house was the flooring (it still had brown shag carpet..sigh)!  ANYWAY...it needed updating. We started with our daughter's room, then the living room, progressed to the hallway (I cannot find the photos from the hallway at the moment but will post them when I do find them) and that is where we stopped! Until now! We are ready to tackle the guest bathroom. I am determined to do this project on a "lesser" budget than our previous updates.  Doing so will involve some repurposing. Hopefully, we can upcycle the old vanity. I plan to handmake the shower curtain and decor. If all goes as planned, we will only have to purchase flooring, a shower, trim and paint. If we make it to see the end of our perpetual plan, this will be an amazing house.  I may be old and gray by then... Regardless, stay tuned!! I am so excited to have my first "real" blog project!

Back to School

Getting amped up for my daughters first day of kindergarten, I decided to make her a back to school dress! With every stitch, I thought about how my baby has gotten so big. Where has time gone? I'll spare you the Mama pity and just show the dress!
